Lorne Michaels on why he didn’t cast Rosie O’Donnell as Steve Bannon

Earlier this year, a photo started circulating on the internet, showing how similar O’Donnell and Bannon’s faces were.

The picture jump-started an online campaign, which called for SNL to take Rosie on as a guest player for the season.

O’Donnell even said she was up for the job in posts on Twitter.

But instead, O’Donnell never appeared on the show and Bannon has continued to be played by a cast mate wearing a grim reaper mask.

Saturday Night Live cast mate Leslie Jones has revealed why Rosie O’Donnell was never hired to play Trump adviser Steve Bannon on the show.

Jones said she asked Lorne Michaels, the show’s founder and executive producer, why he didn’t take O’Donnell up on her offer.

‘I asked Lorne, “How come y’all aren’t bringing Rosie O’Donnell in [to play Bannon, per her plea on Twitter] or any of them to do it?”‘ Jones recalled.

‘And he was like, “When you’re playing a character, you can’t play it from hate. You have to play it from funny, because when you play it from hate, it looks like you’re just being mean.”

‘I love Rosie to death, but he might have been right on that one,’ Jones said.
